Automated guided vehicles, such as AMRs or AGVs, are already being used successfully in internal material flows. However, their potential is far greater, especially when they are used across companies to link supply chain nodes. For this to succeed, certain technical, organizational and IT requirements must be met. This is precisely where this master's thesis comes in.

Aim of the thesis

The aim of the master's thesis is to systematically determine which requirements must be met in order to successfully deploy AGVs between two or more locations or companies in a supply chain. The aim is to develop a structured catalog of requirements that takes into account both technical and procedural prerequisites. The aim is also to show which obstacles exist when considering AGVs across company boundaries.

Possible questions

  • What technological foundations must be in place (communication, navigation, edge computing, etc.)?
  • What organizational requirements are necessary (e.g. process coordination, clarification of responsibilities)?
  • What information needs to be exchanged between the players involved?

Procedure

  • Familiarization with the basics of AGVs and supply chain networking
  • Systematic literature research on existing requirements and use cases
  • Structuring and classification of the requirements in a separate model
  • Validation through expert interviews or practical examples

Possible results

  • A structured catalog of requirements (e.g. checklist, model or framework)
  • Overview of typical hurdles and challenges in implementation
  • Recommendations for action for industry or research
