We are pleased to announce the publication of our GRIPSS-X white paper "Smart tools for service-centric applications in value networks". In the publication, we show how various tools can support the sovereign exchange of data and thus reduce coordination efforts in the joint provision of industrial services. We also use a quantitative survey to provide an up-to-date insight into the status quo of corporate cooperation.

In the white paper, we classify the problem using an illustrative use case and explain the most important principles. We also present the key project results of the GRPSS-X project, which has now been completed. These include the collection of requirements, a system for classifying industrial services (DIN SPEC 77218), platform development and two integrated AI tools (automated information extraction from tenders and AI-supported service matching).

The core of the paper is the evaluation of a survey of 300 decision-makers from the German mechanical and plant engineering industry in order to record the type and scope of cooperation in the joint provision of industrial services as well as assessments of current technologies. Here is an overview of the most important results:

  • Digitalization: overall rather high degree of digitalization; medium-sized companies see themselves as the most advanced; only a small proportion classify themselves as low digitalized
  • Service turnover: for many companies, services only account for a limited proportion of total turnover; very service-oriented business models are the exception
  • Industrial services: are seen as important across all company sizes - particularly strong in medium-sized companies
  • Artificial intelligence: is assessed rather cautiously; large companies tend to see the benefits more strongly than smaller companies
  • Digital platforms: are considered relevant overall; large companies attach particularly high importance to them
  • Data infrastructures (e.g. Gaia-X): rated as moderately relevant overall; larger companies tend to be more open-minded here
  • Collaboration: rated as extremely important; overall very high approval across all size categories

We hope you enjoy reading. The white paper is available at the DOI http://dx.doi.org/10.17877/DE290R-26295.
